Parent Teacher and Friends' Association

Strengthening home and college connections

All parents/caregivers of students at St Mary’s are automatically members of the PTFA and are welcome to attend PTFA meetings. We meet at 7.30pm on the second and second to last Tuesday of each term in the College staff room.

Being involved in the PTFA has many benefits:
  • You could improve the conversations and interpersonal relationships you have with your daughter as a result of being more involved and interested in her college.
  • Meet in a relaxed atmosphere and hear first hand from your daughters’ principal and senior teachers what’s going on in the College.
  • Participate more actively in activities organised by the college.
  • Share time with some of the parents of the girls your daughter associates with.
  • Make a difference in the school by helping raise funds for items the college students might otherwise go without.
The PTFA seeks to:
  • Support the school and parent community by creating opportunities to strengthen the relationships between the school and families.
  • Support the aims of St Mary’s College as outlined in the schools prospectus.
  • Support school led initiatives to educate parents to changes in curriculum, government policy or other related items.
  • Foster a school environment that supports the work of school leadership and the Board of Trustees to create a spirit of community and foster the best physical, intellectual and mental health of students.
  • Bring parents and school staff together in social activities.
  • Raise funds to support both the needs of the PTFA and the school community.

The majority of our funds are obtained from a per family PTFA subscription Additional funds are raised in a range of means including Fairs, Art Exhibitions, raffles and sales promotions. At present we are committing funds to support:

  • The 'celebration of success' within the school by providing end of year prize giving gifts.
  • The special character of the school in tangible ways such as providing grants to priests that give service to the school.
  • Education outside the classroom activities specifically the year 10 camp.
  • Building programmes within the college such as the recent library fit out and the planned student cafeteria completion.
