Board of Directors, St Mary's College

St Mary's College was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1850, and today the Sisters proudly retain their ownership of the College. Their interests are represented by the Board of Directors which is responsible for the land and buildings occupied by the College, and for maintaining and preserving the special character of St Mary's.

The Board of Directors works closely with the Board of Trustees, which has operational managment for the day-to-day running of the College.

The Board of Directors also works closely with the Principal of the College, and the teaching staff. The Board of Directors is delighted with the way in which the College is growing and the wonderful achievements being obtained academically and in the areas of music and sport. The Board extends its thanks and appreciation to the former Principal, Mrs Sandy Pasley, and the Acting Principal, Mr Brian Nolan, for their outstanding leadership in the school, and is confident that these positive results will continue in the future. The Board looks forward to welcoming new Principal Mrs Jane Holloway when she takes up her position in October 2011, and to working with her to continue the outstanding growth and success of St Mary's College.

To meet the urgentl demand for expanded facilities in recent years, the Board of Directors developed a Ten Year Building Development Programme.  Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 of this Development Programme have all been completed. These included the provision of many new classroom blocks, library, staffroom complex, a refurbishment and heating of the swimming pool, new technology facilities, renovation of the Administration Block, a student cafeteria/meeting room, new kitchen, new Religiious Education Faculty, Art Faculty, Student Services such as Careers and Counselling areas and additional car parking facilities.

Stage 5 of the Ten Year Building Development Programme is being planned in 2011 for anticipated completion in 2013 and will comprise a Gymnasium, additional classrooms and expanded car parking facilities.

The Board of Directors is committed to providing facilities to ensure that the future growth of the College is provided for, and is most grateful for the support received from parents and friends of the College in recent years to assist it to achieve its goals. It is hoped that this level of support from friends, parents and the wider community will continue into the future as the Board implements its growth and development strategy to ensure that the long held traditions of excellence and Mercy at St Mary's College are maintained for current and future generations of students.
