We were very fortunate to be joined by one of our famous past pupils, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in late 2019. This was a wonderful experience for our junior girls, staff, PTFA and SMC community.
Dame Kiri had a tour of the school grounds and spoke to the girls about her time at St Mary's College. As many of us know, Dame Kiri was formally trained in operatic singing by Sister Mary Leo Niccol. Her visit to St Mary's College also featured on Seven Sharp, please watch the clip below.

Our traditional Year 13 Breakfast proved once more to be inspirational. Our guest speaker Tupe Solomon-Tanoa’i shared her life learnings with the girls and their whānau.
Tupe encouraged the girls to be agents of change, standing up for what they believe in. She encouraged them to be proud and confident and to celebrate their differences, to do what they love, what they are good at, and what the world needs.
These words of wisdom are priceless coming from such an esteemed and accomplished young woman. Tupe is the Chief Philanthropic Officer at Michael & Suzanne Borrin Foundation. She has worked as an international civil servant and has represented New Zealand’s interests as a diplomat. Tupe is the writer and producer of a web series tackling themes of unconscious bias, diversity and inclusion. She is also a talented singer/songwriter. Last year, Tupe was recognised as one of the University of Auckland’s 40 under 40 and won the diversity category in the New Zealand Women of Influence Awards.
The 2021 Prefects and Top Scholars of Year 12, 2020 were presented with their badges. It was lovely to have their families share in this presentation.
The breakfast was a wonderful way to celebrate our new student leaders and to show our appreciation of their commitment to their roles in their final year at St Mary’s College.
Thank you to the PTFA for organising such a special event and the stunning set-up of the hall. We are grateful for all the hard work by so many in making this event happen. Thank you also to our Year 12 students who volunteered to help as part of their Service Programme
We also wish to thank and acknowledge Little Bird Organics, New World Victoria Park, Pandoro Bakery, Barkers of Geraldine, Vogel's and Enchanted Rose for their generous support.
